Overwhelmed and Over It? How to Handle Wedding Planning Burnout

Wedding planning is exciting—but let’s be honest, it can also feel like a full-time job. If you’re finding yourself constantly aggravated, exasperated, or just plain over it, you’re not alone. The stress of decision-making, family expectations, and the pressure to have a “perfect” day can take a toll. If wedding planning has you feeling more frustrated than excited, here’s how to reset and reclaim the joy in the process.

Don't let wedding planning overwhelm you.

Recognize That It’s Normal

Feeling overwhelmed doesn’t mean something is wrong with you—or your wedding. Many couples hit a wall in the final months as the to-do list grows and emotions run high. Give yourself grace!

Identify the Real Stressors

Are you frustrated with planning itself, or is something else at play? Maybe it’s family drama, budget stress, or decision fatigue. Pinpointing the source of your frustration can help you address it directly.

Streamline Your Communication

Too many meetings, emails, and group chats? Simplify! Set clear agendas for planning calls, take notes, and create action steps so you can move forward efficiently—without feeling like wedding planning is running your life.

Set Boundaries with Family and Friends

Everyone has opinions, but that doesn’t mean you have to take them all to heart. If family dynamics are making things stressful, gently remind your loved ones that, at the end of the day, this is your wedding. Protect your peace!

Schedule Breaks from Planning

Take a weekend off from wedding talk. Go on a date, have a self-care day, or do something totally unrelated. A mental reset can do wonders.

Lean on Your Support System

Your planner (that’s me!) is here to help. Don’t hesitate to be honest about how you’re feeling so we can adjust the process to make things smoother for you. You don’t have to do this alone!

Remember the Big Picture

When frustration creeps in, take a deep breath and remind yourself: You’re marrying your person, and that’s what truly matters. The details will come together, and your wedding day will be beautiful—not because it’s “perfect,” but because it’s yours.

If you’re struggling with wedding planning stress, you’re not failing—you’re just human. Let’s work together to make this process as enjoyable and stress-free as possible. Please email me at behindthescenesbelle@gmail.com.
